Below are the answers to frequently asked questions. Please note that “La Ribaute” refers to the site, which is part of Eschaton Foundation.

Where is the La Ribaute located?

La Ribaute, which is part of Eschaton Foundation, is located outside the village center of Barjac, 3 km (almost 2 miles) to the north, in the direction of Vagnas, in the Ardèche department.

How do I get to La Ribaute?

La Ribaute is located 3 km (almost 2 miles) from the center of Barjac. It is five minutes by car and forty-five minutes by foot, partly on a dirt road where there is a 90-meter difference in altitude.
There is no bus service from the village.

Public transport: from Avignon TGV, an E15 Avignon-Aubenas bus stops at Barjac (1h30 journey, ticket to be bought from the driver, €3).

Cabs: remember to book your cab in advance, as we are not located near any major city.

Is it possible to park at La Ribaute?

Yes, La Ribaute has a private parking lot with a capacity of around 120 spaces, exclusively for ticketed visitors.

Buses can access the visitor parking lot and make a U-turn there.

The foundation accepts no responsibility in the event of theft or any other incident in the parking lot.

Important: although traffic around the foundation is very light, please park and drop off visitors in the parking lot only (cabs, drivers, buses). La Ribaute’s entrance is located on a municipal road, so please do not block traffic.

Can you bike to La Ribaute?

Yes, you may bike to La Ribaute. From the center of Barjac, you can take a path that takes you to the foundation in 15 minutes, with a 90-meter increase in altitude.

What are La Ribaute's opening hours?

La Ribaute is open to the public on a seasonal basis.
During the season, opening days are:
Wednesday (morning)
Thursdays and Fridays (morning and afternoon)
Visits are at set times and the foundation is not open outside of visiting hours.
There are no tours during the weekends or in August.

Dates of the 2025 season:
Wednesday, April 9 through Friday, August 1 and Wednesday, September 3 through Friday, October 31.

Only those with a ticket purchased from our online ticketing platform may enter the site at the time of the tour.

You will find the exact schedule and tips on how to prepare for your visit directly on your ticket. Be sure to arrive 15 min before the actual start of the tour. Please note that we cannot accept late arrivals.

Can the Foundation be reached by telephone?

Unfortunately, no, we are not reachable by phone.

While we appreciate that many of you try to contact us, our reception phone line does not take messages. We ask you to kindly contact us by email.

Can the Foundation be reached by e-mail?

Yes, you can contact us at visits@eschaton-foundation.com.
Any e-mail sent to another address will require a longer processing time and may remain unanswered.

We advise you to consult these Frequently Asked Questions before sending us an email, to check that the information you’re looking for hasn’t already been answered here.

All requests are treated in order of urgency, and we thank you in advance for your patience.

As we are a private foundation, please contact our team exclusively, rather than other neighboring structures that are not in charge of our organization.

Does La Ribaute have a café or restaurant?

There is no food or drink sold on site.
However, a drinking fountain is available. We ask visitors to come well-equipped, especially with water bottles that can be refilled on site, especially in summer due to potential heatwaves.

Restaurants can be found in the center of Barjac or Vagnas, a 5-minute drive away.
For visitors who reserved a full-day tour, you’ll find additional information on your ticket.

There are around twenty restaurants and bakeries offering different types of cuisine. Please think to reserve your table in advance, especially in summer and on Fridays, which are market days in Barjac.

Where to stay in the area?

The foundation does not offer on-site accommodation.

You’ll find a variety of hotels, gites and bed & breakfasts in and around Barjac and Vagnas. Remember to book in advance, especially in high season.

Are lockers available?

No. However, we do have a space at our reception for storing motorcycle or bicycle helmets if required. You can leave your belongings in your vehicle in the parking lot. Please note that the access road is only used by a few local residents, and the parking lot is only open to visitors to the foundation.
However, the foundation declines all responsibility for any theft of personal belongings that may occur on the premises and/or in vehicles parked in the parking lot.

Is spacial clothing or equipment required?

We strongly advise you to come with comfortable clothing, shoes that are sufficiently closed or tied to walk comfortably, and a small backpack.

The minimum tour lasts about 2 hours and 45 minutes and includes about 4 km (almost 2.5 miles) of walking with medium to steep gradients.

Please note: be sure to check the weather forecast before coming, and equipe yourself accordingly.
The route is mainly outdoors, so poor equipment could ruin your enjoyment of the visit.
In the event of bad weather, we may have to adapt the itinerary for the safety of visitors, but the foundation will not cancel tours in the event of rain.

In hot weather, please bring: water bottle, hat, cooling spray, fans. In summer, temperatures can exceed 40°C (over 100°F) in direct sunlight.
In case of rain, please bring: Raincoat or rain gear recommended, closed shoes or rain boots, as some passages may be muddy.

Proper equipment allows you to make the most of your experience of discovering the site and the works.
